Spirometry

Spirometry (also ergospirometry) helps to assess physical fitness, maximum intake of oxygen as well as the anaerobic threshold with a high amount of precision in relation to the average population (average as far as age, physical height and sex are concerned).

During the examination, physical exertion on an ergometre is gradually increased. The intake of oxygen and the emission of CO2 with every breath are assessed using a breathing mask.

If physical fitness is limited, spirometry helps to find out whether that is caused by defects in breathing function, cardiovascular system or muscle metabolism.

Complete laboratory diagnostics:
We can offer all necessary laboratory tests with the help of an associated central laboratory.

Rhinomanometry / Nasal Provocation Test

This test measures how clear or obstructed the nasal passage is and thus the potential obstruction of nasal breathing. It is also used in the nasal provocation test.

Nasal Provocation Test

Particularly before a Specific Immune Therapy (SIT/hyposensitization) is initiated, a clear clinical relevance of positive results from allergy-skin-tests must be proven. For this, rhinomanometry is done before and after nasal applicaton of dissolved allergens.

Histamin-Provokation

Histamine provocation/unspecific bronchial provocation test

Sleep-apnea-diagnostic

A sleep-apnea-syndrome might me suspected if:
Snoring or breathing-stops during sleep are noticed regularly by the partner and/or excessive sleepiness coccurs in the morning or during daytime and/or the patient feels exhausted in the morning.

By a special recording device equipped with diverse sensors, which is - after instruction in my practice - applied by the patient himself at his home before he goes to bed, such sleep-related breathing disorders can be diagnosed very well.

This is also done in patients suffering from hypertension or cardiac arrhythmias during night-time and otherwise inexplicable sleep-disturbances.
Patients whose diagnosed sleep-apnea-syndrome is already treated with a breathing mask ("nasal-CPAP-therapy") can have the optimal settings of their respirator controlled.
The morning after the recording the device will be brought back to the practice, the data read out, analysed and discussed with the patient. If necessary, further steps are initiated.

Please tell the ladies at my reception that you are making an appointment because of suspected sleep-apnea-syndrome, so we can reserve a device for you on the day of your appointment. That saves time since you need not come to the practice twice.

Ultrasonography

Both abdominal organs (liver, gall bladder, kidney, spleen, pancreas, abdominal lymphnodes, abdominal aorta) and parts of the chest (chest wall, pleura and occasionally pleural effusion and peripheral parts of the lung if consolidated) can be examined entirely without X-ray. Pathological structure, form or size can be identified. Stomach and gut are not seen very well in ultrasonography.

If punctures are carried out, ultrasonography serves as an aid in finding the appropriate location for the puncture.
